We would like to congratulate Gemma, one of our Architects on the birth of her baby son Finn. Born on the 13th August weighing 6lb 6oz. Gemma is taking some time off enjoying her baby and we look forward to seeing her and Finn soon.

After almost 20 years of operations in the North East. Dunwoodie Architecture and Design are proud to announce that we now have a new office in Leeds.

The practice has now expanded into the Yorkshire area and we are looking forward to continuing the success for many more years to come.

GallifordTry are on site at the Freeman Hospital carry out major work in the ward block creating a new Endoscopy Unit.

The unit will open to patients in spring 2010 and will provide state of the art facilities with new X-Ray and treatment rooms.

January 2010 sees the planned works at South Tyneside General Hospital get underway. The hospital are spending £8 million on upgrading the existing accident and emeregency department, admissions unit and the childrens assessment services to create the new emergency care services.

The major development is planned to last until 2011 and will bring state of the art facilities to the the borough.

Under the scheme Architect In The House we are offering free consultation to registered homeowners who are looking to improve their homes who then donate to Shelter. The scheme looks at helping those most in need and has raised more than £800,000 in the past 13 years.

Derek recently took part in Interserve's golfing day at Romanby, Northallerton and managed to win for the second year running, adding to his collection of Golf bags and umbrellas.

Playing alongside other architects and consultants, Derek manged to keep his record intact keeping Dunwoodie out of a hole. He is looking forward to a possible hatrick next year.

The practice has recently completed a refurbishment of the main entrance at South Tyneside District Hospital, including new entrance canopies.

This project sees the start of more major refurbishments at the hospital including Wards 8 and 9 and also a new A&E and entrance being planned for the near future.

We are currently involved in two projects for Dumfries and Galloway NHS.

The new MRI Unit and X Ray Department at the Royal Infirmary had a combined value of £3,300,000.

The new MRI Unit is now completed and the X-Ray Department is due to be completed in March 2009.

South Tyneside Council, annual "Good Design Awards" have commended the Cardiology Unit at South Tyneside District Hospital.

The Local Authority have organised the annual event to promote, and signal their commitment to good design, innovation and community participation in the borough.

DA&D's Michael Collins received the award on behalf of the practice at the home of a previous recipient, Bede's World in Jarrow.
