Dunwoodie Architecture and Design Health Care Project:Temporary HDU Client: County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust Scheme Value: £124,000 The project involved the refurbishment of an existing Day Surgery Accommodation to provide a temporary High Dependency Unit. With the addition of 6 new beds the unit can help provide the necessary care until the new unit opens in the near future. Staff and patients moved into the new unit in July.
Contractor: Acomb Construction
Services Engineer: RPS Gregory Dunwoodie Architecture and Design Health Care Project:Ingham Wing Main Entrance Client: South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust Scheme Value: £500,000 The brief was to revamp the existing entrance concourse and weather canopies to create an inviting hotel-feel while streamlining services provided within.
The works improve the aesthetic of the main façade and improve access and use of the main hospital concourse.
Using innovative construction techniques the new entrance creates a modern and unique facility that reflects the ambitious plans for future hospital redevelopment. Dunwoodie Architecture and Design Health Care Project:Adult and Children's A&E Department Client: South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust Scheme Value: £4 million The proposed development includes a new entrance to Accident and Emergency Services at South Tyneside Hospital.
The design of the new frontage to the building enforces the idea of progess for the Trust. Introducing new materials and colour along the elevation, opening up the entrance to make the department feel larger and less clinical. Dunwoodie Architecture and Design Health Care Project:GP's Surgery, Shotley Bridge Client: Queens Road Surgery Scheme Value: £2,400,000 The brief was to create a new GP's surgery for Queens Road Surgery that would be modern, inviting and above all functional.
Situated in the grounds of Shotley Bridge Hospital the scheme had to create an impact to show commitment to the community while providing a quality and attention to detail. Dunwoodie Architecture and Design Health Care Project:IRP Phase 3 Client: North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust Scheme Value: £6.5 million Phase 3 of the Independant Reconfiguration Panel involved major refurbishment across both hospital sites at North Tees and Hartlepool.
The works included refurbishment of the Maternity department, Paediatrics, Physiotherapy, Postgraduate Training Facilities and the Trust Head Quarters.
The Assisted Reproduction Unit at Hartlepool was completed in August 2008 and saw the development of an ultra-modern facility for IVF Treatment. Dunwoodie Architecture and Design Health Care Project:EAU Phase 2 Client: North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust Scheme Value: £6 million A new 48 bed Emergency Assessment Unit designed initally for the Trust then completed as a ProCure 21 scheme, in collaboration with Yorkon and Interserve.
The single storey building constructed off site prooving a fast and efficient method of construction allowing the project to be completed within in a short time frame.
Internally the modular unit was designed to current HTM standards providing a fully functional and compliant health facility within the hospital. Dunwoodie Architecture and Design Health Care Project:Cardiology Unit, South Tyneside Client: South Tyneside Health Care NHS Trust Scheme Value: £1,100,000 A specialised extension on a demanding site, this single storey building has been designed with a commitment to quality.
The material selection was required to be sympathetic to its surroundings, yet brave in order to push the boundaries of quality design on the site.
Whilst the exterior has shown an attention to detail, and uses bold, crisp, clean & sustainable materials, the emphasis on design quality is firmly fixed on the users of the building, with a high quality of internal spaces. Dunwoodie Architecture and Design Health Care Project:Sunderland Royal Infirmary Client: City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Trust Scheme Value: £6,800,000 The challenge was to expand and convert a three storey car park into a mixed use health care facility. The intrinsic attributes of car park design directly contradict the architectural response required for arguably the most exacting of public buildings, however, this facility now provides highly serviced operating theatres, wards and administrative support in a building which is corresponding to its context. Dunwoodie Architecture and Design Health Care Project:Maternity, South Tyneside Hospital Client: South Tyneside Health Care NHS Trust Scheme Value: £1,000,000 This project comprised the complete refurbishment of the existing Maternity to provide new delivery suites each with their own en-suite bathrooms, a birthing pool, an operating theatre and associated support facilities.
The user demands for privacy, acoustic separation and "less clinical" accommodation, ensured the scheme provided 21st Century Maternity facilities. The scheme provided a new steel entrance canopy and lobby, as a new entrance statement, on the main hospital street.
